Meet Deb Sklüt
Originally from Los Angeles, Deb moved to the Bay Area in 2006 to attend college, obtaining a degree from UC Berkeley in Art Practice in 2010. She has since stayed here because it’s AWESOME and can’t seem to stop making art. She has participated in Oakland’s Art Murmur at The Eatup five times (October 2012-February 2013), and has sold science tees at the Microbiology Student Group Symposium 2013 and the 2013 Bay Area Virology Conference, as well as maintaining an Etsy store.
Her science-themed art is inspired by her husband, Sergio, who is a microbiologist with a PhD in Infectious Diseases. At that level, the science gets pretty complex, and this is Deb’s way of understanding what Sergio does in the lab. It is also an admiration and a respect for science and a love for technical precision in both fields that drives her to create art that showcases the power of science.
